With July comes berries and jam packed schedules and this gorgeous book of poetry with sweet, bite sized poems collected by the late Paul Janeczko. Colors abound, textures evoke, details emerge in this fantastic collection illuminated by one of our family’s very favorite illustrators, a true master of her various media and overall exquisite collage artist. Conveniently sorting by season makes them just perfect for sprinkling into read alouds all throughout the year. Better yet? Gather around and indulge in each and every ripe, juicy verse all at once during a summery afternoon poet-tea get together à la Julie Bogart1. The only requirements are poems, warm beverages, and ideally finger foods. The results? Magic.
No age limits, restrictions, or suggestions for this picture book anthology other than to say that excellent poetry is universal, timeless, to be reached for, enjoyed, and savored all throughout life. Most nights end with poems around our house, made even easier with a book like this on hand filled with sweet teeny compositions with which to cap off the night.
